Keeping Your Business Safe: Be Aware of These Ongoing Scams!

As we continue to navigate through this difficult time, as your IT Providers, we wanted to warn you of some ongoing Coronavirus related scams. These scam artists profit most during a time of heightened panic and stressful situations, using various tactics to grab your attention. Listed below are some of the many ongoing scams:

The Fake Funding Scam: Donate to help find a cure for Coronavirus Scam

Phony Health Agency Notifications: Phone Emails pretending to be a business

Gift Card & Airline Scams: Congratulations! You’ve won…a fake vacation

Fake Cures, Vaccines and Treatments for the Coronavirus

In addition, there are warnings directly from the Government by the US attorney general mentioning the following scams:

  • Individuals and businesses selling fake cures for COVID-19 online and engaging in other forms of fraud.
  • Phishing emails from entities posing as the World Health Organization or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Malicious websites and apps that appear to share coronavirus-related information to gain and lock access to your devices until payment is received.
  • Seeking donations fraudulently for illegitimate or non-existent charitable organizations.
  • Medical providers obtaining patient information for COVID-19 testing and then using that information to fraudulently bill for other tests and procedures
  • So, what can you do? As we’ve found with many scams of the past, the best solution is to be proactive and aware. If an email seems phony, it likely is. Delete any suspicious messages, and do not click on any links. Be over-protective when it comes to cyber security. One click of a fake link can cause huge problems for you, and your business.
If you come across any suspicious claims, you can report them to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), at ftc.gov/complaint.
